Visit Usa River Children Centre

At Tanzibarn.dk we find it important that there is an interaction between Denmark and Tanzania. That’s why everybody is more than welcome to visit the centre in Usa River.

At the centre you can get a tour around the premises and talk to volunteers, the children and staff. There might even be time to play with the children, but since they spend a lot of time doing homework, especially the older children, there’s no guarantee they’ll have time for it.

There are two possibilities when it comes to visits. One is a relatively quick visit, where you drop in for a few hours. To make the best of the visits, we would like to know in advance – at the latest one day before. If you wish to visit the centre for a longer period, that’s also possible. This could be if you’re a former volunteer or related to any of the current volunteers. Since life at the centre is sometimes busy, especially in the summer where a lot of people want to visit, this has to be coordinated as well. You do that by writing the volunteers at usariver@gmail.com preferably as soon as possible.

To avoid confusion amongst the children, it’s only allowed present volunteers to stay overnight at the centre. But there are many cheap, local places close to the centre to stay for the night in Usa River. Staff and volunteers will be glad to help and recommend places.

Earlier a lot of the people visiting the centre brought gifts for the children –and for that we are very grateful. But to make sure that the children are not getting too spoiled compared to the rest of the children in Usa River, we now prefer that guests don’t serve sodas or candy, but instead buy some fruit or snack vegetables, donate some money to the organization, join the organization or donate some of the things that are on the centre’s want list. We hope this doesn’t make us sound ungrateful, and we ask for your understanding.
